Conference Summary
The Freedom of Information and Privacy Association (FIPA) is pleased to present our 10th conference on Privacy and related issues on November 24-25, 2008. This year’s conference is focused on the relationship between privacy, trust and identity theft. We have long considered identity fraud to be one of the most visible and serious types of privacy breach. It is a problem that is afflicting more people every day and is suppressing the growth of personal communication and commerce.
FIPA’s work on this topic includes our landmark study on “PIPEDA and Identity Theft” published in April 2005. This year’s Privacy and Identity Theft Conference is the next step in exploring these issues, and working with government, industry, consumer and public interest groups to develop a comprehensive framework to combat this exponentially growing problem.
The conference will feature leading experts from government, industry, academia and the non-profit sector who will address these topics in a way designed to stretch your thinking and provide practical on-the-ground insights that you can integrate with your organization’s privacy and security framework.
The conference program is focused on the challenging issues confronting all those affected by the growing impact of identity fraud, whether this means dealing with front-line prevention or high-level policy, corporate procedures or a personal struggle to deal with the first-hand consequences of ID theft.
Identity fraud is a complex syndrome and combating its current rise will require an array of solutions, all working together. Solutions will be found in legislative reforms, educational and preventive measures, improved corporate procedures, and the creation of effective remedies for the public. The Privacy and Identity Theft Conference 2008 will address all these issues.
